Very consistent smoke and taste throughout the smoke. Bottom of Bowl: A nice build up of strength, still smooth, not quite as complex as Pease's Abingdon, but nevertheless still delicious. The smoke is heavy and rich and leaves wherever you are smelling like a campfire. But as you go deeper the Latakia conquers the palate bringing with it an intensely rich, savory and smoky flavor. especially the Turkish, which I really like. I thought the smoke was gonna be the way it smelled, but to my surprise it was a soapy like smooth smoke that had a uniq ue odor without tongue bite. Wonderful blend, and certainly a 4-star blend! Due to the descriptors I used, it is a smoke best enjoyed outdoors or in the privacy of your smoking room. I like to smoke PK in a large bowled pipe, usually my big Striker billiard. This is actually a very well rounded blend. I expected the Latakia to be overwhelming, but surprisingly its not. Second the name is brilliance. Nakhla is one of the (if not THE) all time kings of the market. A Latakia blast similar to the ones which built the Hoover dam. The burn's consistent and incredibly even, giving off a smoke that's reminiscent of Sam G Balkan Flake: cool Latakia. The turkish offers nice counterpoint, but no standard campfire, woody, earthy et al aromas to be had on this trip. And this is the blend. The Cavendish tries now and again, but about all it can seem to muster is to have a slight sweetening effect on the Latakia. Talk about a master class. PK arrived as a brick or block. A classic pipe room note scent that will turn bystanders into tokers. Like Latakia? Surprisingly to me with such a stated high content of Latakia, mild enough to start at day break and end the evening winds. ok, campfire and dead trees works for me, too. The burley is noticeable not so much for the taste but more so the nicotine hit that it helps provide. I cant taste any oriental tobacco. Other than that, I believe this to be the perfect blend for true lover's of Latakia, it showcases the rich, velvety, smokey, slightly sweet, delectability of Latakia, while offering a robust, yet silky smooth, full smoking experience. Somehow, none of the blends I tried hit the spot, offering only a mere tantalizing hint of the Latakia pungency that I was after. This is a very hard tobacco to review, so I'll just note my first impressions. This is the first latakia blend that i try, and i'm lucky this be the first and my favorite blend. In this case, Burley doesnt help the blend and it is necessary like smoking pure Latakia. Further down the bowl I detected a pine taste which was not bad. The closest an honest gentleman can get to smoking straight Latakia. Quiet Nights as my favorite. Holy crap this stuff is intense. The primary notable tin note and flavors are or course, Latakia! The burley appears for a moment after lighting, then steps back to make way for full- force latakia with bits of tasty turkish aroma punctuating. I don't know if it's too much latakia at 70 percent, or if there's another something in there (burley?) And the smoke has a creamy quality that coats your mouth and nose and everything in a 3 yard radius. Also this blend delivered the most pleasant aroma of any tobacco I've lit up before, and always gets me comin g back for more. Probably would go nice with a good, single malt Scotch. As for the room note unfortunately even though I always smoke outside, some wafted in and my girl friend was not too happy but I was, ha. For starters, this is very concentrated latakia - almost meaty, creamy, rich. Some may be surprised to see a healthy portion of Brown Burley and Turkish, but don't be fooled because Pirate Kake is a Latakia powerhouse. Guess what? Very pleasant smoke Great flavor. That being said for me even staying within the same company I think you get much more nuance and flavor while remaining a great smoke from Stimulus Package or Da Vinci maybe even Mississippi Mud if youd like black Cavendish. Does water soak into a grit on your stove faster than the whole grit eating world on your stove? To me, the tin note is mostly smoke and leather, with some wood and maybe a wee bit of fruitiness. The VA's may be lower in percentage, but they are first rate and their earthy sweetness are obvious. Again, not an everyday smoke but fantatic when one is latakia deprived. When rotated with other blends (I smoked Virginias around this) it was really good, but trying to go bowl after bowl until the tin was empty was just too much for me. I enjoy a good Balkan or English blend, but not this much Latakia. The flavor stays consistent and doesn't get harsh near the end. Latakia heaven.
